Fifty five Y8 and Y9 students from Whickham School and Sports College participated in a sports tour during the summer holidays. Football matches were played against Swedish school and club teams. A strong Y8 team won all their matches and the Y9 team drew two games and lost one. The boys also took part in competitive Outdoor Activities. The tour was a huge success and the school even received letters from tourists who wrote to the school commenting on the students respect for others and their behaviour.

The week beginning Monday 30th June saw a number of Year 5 Kwik Cricket Festivals taking place within Gateshead. Greenside CC, Gateshead Fell CC, Felling CC, Swalwell CC, Bill Quay CC, Blaydon CC and Whickham CC all hosted festivals throughout the course of the week.

400 players from almost 50 teams represented 29 different schools from within the borough. For a number of young people this represented their first opportunity to play competitive cricket. A great deal of experience was gained from each festival and stands the players in good stead for future competitions.

A big thank you to all clubs and volunteers who helped run the festivals so successfully.
