ST EDMUND CAMPION CLUSTER
NEWSLETTER
March 2005.
* All primary schools in St. Edmund Campion School cluster have now joined the SSCo programme although 2 schools are unable to have a primary links teacher this year due to lack of staff.
* 5-a-side tournament. 5 teams competed in a well supported and fiercely fought contest. The behaviour and sportsmanship were excellent, producing a most enjoyable tournament with the winners being Birtley St. Joseph’s school. They now play the winners from the other clusters at Gateshead Stadium on 26th April.
* The half-termly meeting was used to discuss and agree upon a common form of assessment to be used in the cluster schools. The result is now in the process of being formatted by Jim Dawson at Hill Top school with out thanks. This should be ready to use for the summer term.
* ‘Kidz Get Fit’ organisation is running clubs in 4 schools at present. This is financed through NOF. This has the dual function of opening up OSHL to those who do not join in the games side but also helps to contribute to the government aim of 2 hours of PE and School Sport. Other schools will be accessing this organisation next term.
* KS4 girls who are at risk of disaffection from PE and School Sport are participating in horse riding funded through NOF. This is resulting in an improvement both in their participation in PE and their behaviour.
* 2 pupils from St. Edmund Campion School attended a 1 day training course for Step into Sport from which they gained a basketball qualification.
* Community Sports Leaders from St. E. C. School are currently running clubs in 3 cluster primary schools taking football, basketball and dance.
* A TOP Dance training course was run at St. E. C. School which 16 teachers attended.
* Birtley St. Joseph’s School have gained an FA charter and have established good links with Birtley Town Football Club. Joe McCormick is running a 7-a-side football festival in the summer term for any interested primary schools and is currently looking into the possibility of coaches from the club coming into the cluster schools to train pupils. Details will be given as soon as they are known.
