Community Sports Leaders in schools
Dates for your diary
St. Edmund Campion Cluster held tournaments in High 5 Netball and mini Basketball this term. The winners of both went on to represent the cluster in the finals but as yet I have not had any results back.
This cluster combined with Joseph Swan, Heworth and Thomas Hepburn clusters to train primary teachers in TOP Play and TOP Sport. A good number of primaries availed themselves of the opportunity to send teachers for this training and were rewarded with the new TOP Play/Sport cards and handbook.
My thanks to Steve Davison and Matt Tellyn for their contributions to this course.
Earlier this term I visited all of the heads (those available) in our cluster and asked them to fill in a questionnaire which amongst other things asked what the main benefits of the SSCo programme have been (if any). I am pleased to say that the responses have all been positive so if there is an area that you feels needs to be addressed please let me know.
There have been 5 trainee Community Sports Leaders working in schools this term helping/taking football clubs and one for basketball. If any school is struggling to find people to help with clubs, let me know.
Three Sports Leaders have also continued on to the Step into Sport scheme for coaching in the community. One has gained his level 1 coaching award in basketball whilst all three have gained their level 1 referees award (also in basketball).
