Birtley St. Joseph's are North of England Champions

The Birtley boys 7-a-side football team are confirmed as the North of England Champions.

Having already won the Eden Colliery Cup, earlier in the season, Birtley St. Joseph's Junior School football team had to travel to Newcastle Academy to take part in the North of England Championships, incuding teams from as far south as Cheshire and as far north as Cumbria.

The boys had to play 6 matches and completed a very successful afternoon, winning 5 of them and drawing the other.

As a result, the Birtley boys were confirmed as the North of England Champions. This now means that the team have to compete in the National Finals, to be held at Keele University on Saturday June 16th. Although the school will be given some money by the English Schools F. A., to help with expenses a lot more money will be needed to help with the cost.

If you can help, or know someone who can, could you please contact Joe McCormick at Birtley St. Joseph's Junior School, School Street, Birtley or telephone 0191 4102231
