The Government commits to physical education and school sport

PESSCL%20logo.bmp

The Government has announced 30 new Public Service Agreements (PSAs) signalling the priority outcomes to be achieved between 2008 and 2011. Physical education and school sport for children and young people are included as part of the Governments commitment to the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games and improving the health and well-being of children and young people in Britain.
The vision is to obtain far-reaching benefits from the 2012 Games, including increased sports participation for all, improved physical health and well-being through the promotion of physical activity and strengthened local communities. Children and young people have been positioned as central to ensuring this across the UK and internationally.

Self Review Document for Secondary Physical Education

SSCO-LOGO.gif
Following the successful workshop this morning you will find the documents we discussed below. It was agreed that we would meet again in January to discuss progress made in relation to identified action under Section 5 of the Self Review document. Details of dates, time and venue will be forwarded to schools by October half term to give you plenty of time to organise your attendance. Those present feel these meetings/workshops of Heads of Department, SSCos, PDM and Directors of Sport are extremely valuable... 'the sum of the individuals is greater than the individual themselves' and all that. We hope those unable to attend will be able to join us at the next one. Details of this years future meetings will be sent to schools before October half term.

National School Sport Survey Results and local analysis

Please find attached all the files we looked at and more from last nights SSCo meeting. The data from the National School Sport Survey 2005-06 has been analysed for our schools and clusters. For this purpose we have used a very simple colour coded system on the excel documents. This in turn should inform your own analysis and actions for both individual schools and your cluster(s).
The Gateshead/Whickham School Sport Partnership aim for the 2006-07 National School Sport Survey will be 80% of our young people achieving the 2 hour target.

Bidding for the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games has created a dynamic and inspirational context for learning.

The message of the Olympic Games is a simple but powerful one: that we can all be inspired to succeed. Now London has been awarded the 2012 Games, this message has more relevance than ever.

London 2012 created a schools Assembly Pack to promote the ideas of being inspired to achieve your personal best, set new standards, learn together and support the efforts of others through a series of images and ideas.

Resources including PowerPoint presentations and teachers notes have been designed for both primary and secondary use and can be customised as appropriate.
