Gateshead Schools Young Sports Acheivers Award Ceremony

An extremely successful evening was held last week at Gateshead Leisure Centre. This was to celebrate the achievements of Gateshead Schools' young sports people throughout the 2004-05 season.
We were honoured to have several high profile guests at the event and would like to take the opportunity to thank them for attending.
Andrew Bridge a member of this season's very successful Newcastle Eagles basketball squad was able to join us and present the awards. I know everyone would like to join me in extending our thanks to Andrew for spending time with us during the off season. Our young people were inspired with the opportunity to meet a real live role model. Let's hope one of these young people will return in this capacity in the future.
I'm very sad but my aspiration is to see one or more of our Gateshead young sports achievers representing us in the London Olympics 2012.
Further details and photographs of the award winners are attached.

Karate display 'controls' the Audience

The Shotokan Tigers of The Tadashii-do Karate Club entranced the audience with their skills and control at our recent Gateshead Schools' Young Sports Achievers' Award Ceremony. They showed us some of the moves and discipline we can expect our target groups of young people to experience next year when we introduce them to this sport.
A selection of schools in the Whickham Cluster are already benefitting from some in school support provided by the Tadashii-do Karate Club (based at Bensham Grove Community Centre).

Action shots attached.

BASE Display at our Young Sports Achievers Awards

The Young Sports Achievers Award Ceremony involved far more than meets the eye. To make the evening even more entertaining no expense was spared when we flew in some demonstration event, diplays? There was a display team from the Heworth Grange cluster showing us work they have undertaken using BASE resources and ideas.
Thank you and well done to the schools and young people who fascinated us with their display of generic skills. The future looks bright if this work continues - not quite old enough to represent us at the London Olympics 2012 unfortunately?

All the action can be viewed below.
