Early Years Movement Project
The School Sports Partnership,Susan Moore(OT) and the Early Years Area SENCO's have developed a pilot study in Gateshead, to increase practitioner awareness of children who may be experiencing movement difficulties, and provide intervention,by embedding physical movement and activity into everyday practice, to support not only improved outcomes for specific children but also support whole class/setting improvement.
In October 2006, seven pilot settings were involved in training and have been asked to create daily opportunities for physical activities and movement; documenting their stories in a learning journal. They have also been asked to set up and develop a Movement Corner in each Early Years setting.
At regular intervals during 2007 the settings will meet to discuss their findings.
It is anticipated that if improvements for children are evident, the training will be rolled out across Gateshead in the near future.
